2nd Amendment Sanctuary Petition

Declare Long Island a 2A Sanctuary! 

WHEREAS, the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution guarantees the right of the people to keep and bear arms, a fundamental right essential for the preservation of liberty and security;

WHEREAS, the Supreme Court of the United States has affirmed that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to possess and carry firearms (District of Columbia v. Heller, 2008);

WHEREAS, states and localities that have implemented strict gun control measures have not consistently shown a reduction in crime rates, suggesting that such measures primarily disarm law-abiding citizens rather than criminals;

WHEREAS, the principle of federalism allows states and localities to adopt measures that protect the constitutional rights of their citizens against overreach by federal authorities;

WHEREAS, the imposition of Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs), also known as "red flag laws," results in the confiscation of firearms from individuals without due process, infringing upon their Constitutional rights;

THEREFORE, I urge you to declare Suffolk/Nassau County as a Second Amendment Sanctuary and prohibit the enforcement of Extreme Risk Protection Orders by Suffolk/Nassau County Police Department and Suffolk/Nassau Sheriffs Department.
